Vintage Austrian Rose Motif Enamel Earrings

Vintage earrings of pink roses and green leaves, dimensionally assembled into something that reads like a small bouquet at the ear. A rare piece, still held on its original "Made in Austria" card.

What makes these earrings particular is the sculptural construction of the rose and the rare survival of the original presentation. Each petal of the rose has been formed individually and assembled in overlapping layers, building outward from the centre. The bud at the heart of the flower carries a deeper, more saturated enamel, fading toward paler tones as the petals open outward — a faithful rendering of how a real rose blooms. The edges of each petal are rimmed in gold, lending dimension and a soft sheen across the form. The green leaves are equally considered: not flat shapes but modelled with the lift of veins, edged in gold. A single flower whose face changes from every angle, depending on how the petals and leaves catch the light.

Austria, particularly through Vienna and surrounding workshops, was renowned across the 19th and 20th centuries for fine enamelwork and precise costume jewellery. Tradition rooted in Bohemian glass and exacting metal craft fed directly into the European costume jewellery scene. The kind of three-dimensional rose seen here — petals built individually and assembled — is exactly the type of work for which Austrian workshops earned their reputation.

A piece still held on its original presentation card is itself a rarity. The card carries the soft patina of years passed, suggesting these earrings have travelled through time in their original state. A piece of considered collector's interest.

The fittings are clip style, wearable without pierced ears. Modest in scale, like a single rose blooming at the ear. Paired with a simple white blouse, a grey knit, or a linen dress, they bring a soft warmth across the whole outfit. Earrings for days when you want to ease the shoulders into something gentle.
