Vintage Omega Round Türler Watch
Two names sit on the dial: Omega, and Türler.
Türler is a Swiss watch retailer founded in Biel in 1883, today on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse near Paradeplatz. In an earlier era, watches sold through an important retailer were sometimes printed with the shop's name beneath the maker's — the practice known as a double signature. This dial is a survivor of that custom, and among watches of the same reference, few carry that extra line.
The case measures about 20mm. Small by today's habits, but standard for a ladies' watch of its time. The gold-plated case rises in a fine rim, with a generous fluted crown at the side, and the silver dial carries slim baton markers and hands in a restrained gold.
Time has warmed the dial to a soft cream. Along with that, there are scratches on the crystal and age-related deterioration on the dial. It has none of the evenness of something new — which is precisely why it looks like this one watch and no other.
The movement is hand-wound, so it asks to be wound once a day when you wear it. It has been inspected, and runs to within about ±10 seconds a day lying flat. A watch that stops unless you keep it going, chosen by people who want exactly that.
The bracelet is gold-plated, and is aftermarket rather than original Omega. It measures approximately 15cm around the wrist.
Just large enough to catch the light inside a shirt cuff. Neither wholly a watch nor wholly a bracelet — which is the appeal of the small watches of this period.
