Vintage Cloisonné Hair Comb

A vintage cloisonné hair comb, brought back from 1950s–70s Australia.

Cloisonné is an ancient enamelling technique in which ultra-fine metal wires are bent to form patterns, creating tiny cells that are filled with powdered glass and fired at high temperatures. The result is a luminous, jewel-like surface where each colour glows with clarity and depth.

This comb features a beautifully classic design — softly coloured blossoms and a fluttering butterfly set against a clean ivory-white ground. The wirework outlining each petal and wing rewards a closer look, and the enamel itself holds the kind of quiet, considered shine only this technique produces.

Slide it into a low ponytail for a polished finish, or use it to secure a bun for a more composed silhouette. Equally at home with Western dress or kimono styling. On the day of the vow, it brings a small jewel-like detail to pinned-up hair. In everyday wear, it lends a touch of quiet celebration to the most ordinary morning.
