A small watch with a quiet face. A black dial, a fine gold ring tracing the hours, two slim gold hands — a piece that sits closer to a bracelet than to a timepiece.

Alba is the design line Seiko introduced in 1979, made to bring the house’s quartz precision to an easier, more everyday register; the name means “dawn” in Italian. This one pairs a gold-tone case with a bracelet of polished links set with deep black inlaid panels, a soft two-tone rhythm running around the wrist. The movement is Japanese quartz.

The cushion-shaped case is barely larger than a coin, and the black dial reads almost as a dark stone beneath its gold edge. The bracelet alternates warm gold and matte black, catching the light in short, even beats. Everything here is kept small and deliberate.

Light on the wrist, it tucks easily under a shirt cuff and reads as jewellery as much as a watch. For wrists that find most watches too large, or for anyone drawn to the restraint of a tiny vintage face.
