EMMA KRAFFT Flower of Life Kanzashi (Hair Stick)

A sphere of geometry, balanced on a single stick. The Flower of Life Hair Stick carries at its head an openwork globe, pierced through with the ancient Flower of Life pattern — overlapping circles that resolve into six-petalled blossoms, repeating across the entire surface. Every line is cut by hand at the EMMA KRAFFT atelier in Karaköy, Istanbul.

The precision is easiest to understand in sunlight. Because the sphere is pierced clean through, light passes across it and throws the pattern outward as shadow — a small constellation that shifts as you turn your head. The bronze has a warm, quiet tone, closer to old gold than to anything bright.

Worn through a bun or a loosely twisted knot, it holds the hair the way a kanzashi does, while the sphere sits above like a small ornament in orbit. It works as naturally with everyday clothes as it does with an occasion — and just as well kept on a shelf, where the shadow it casts is an ornament in itself.

An ancient pattern, a traditional craft, a form at home in Japanese hair culture: a great deal of history gathered into one small sphere, made to accompany your days for a long time to come.
