Vintage Boucher Jonquille Brooch
A single daffodil, cast in gold tone — a vintage brooch by Boucher.
The back carries two stamps: the model name "JONQUILLE," French for the jonquil daffodil, and "©BOUCHER" with its model number. Marcel Boucher trained at Cartier in Paris before crossing to New York, where he opened his own workshop in 1937 — a jeweller who brought fine-jewellery techniques into costume jewellery, and a name collectors still seek out today. This piece belongs to the brand's 1960s flower series, which devoted a design to each bloom; the Jonquille dates to around 1963.
The petals and leaves are finely textured all over, like brushed silk, holding the light softly rather than flashing it — while the polished stem gives a bright counterpoint. At the centre sits a single pearl, the heart of the flower. The petals twist gently into three dimensions, so the brooch changes expression with every angle.
The daffodil is the first flower of the turning year — a quiet companion for anyone beginning something new. Worn on a lapel or at the chest of a coat, this bloom, born in New York some sixty years ago, goes on flowering in a new wardrobe: yours.
