Vintage Italian Micromosaic Ring

A small field of yellow flowers blooms inside a deep blue oval. Made in the Italian micromosaic tradition, the floral motif is composed of tiny glass tesserae set one by one — like carrying a miniature painting on your hand.

The base is gold-tone metal. A fine rope-twist border frames the mosaic face, holding it the way a frame holds a picture. The band splits into two slender lines, delicate in build yet quietly present on the finger.

Against the deep blue ground, the scattering of yellow recalls mimosa in bloom. Up close, the glass catches the light with a subtle depth that only handwork can produce — an unevenness that is part of its beauty.

The first city is Rome. In its workshops, micromosaic takes shape through a technique called millefiori — Italian for "a thousand flowers" — where tiny fragments of glass become blossoms, one by one. Travellers on the Grand Tour once carried these pieces home as memories they could wear. The very first souvenir jewellery.

The second city is Vienna. Here the flowers bloom indoors — in enamel, across a bangle, and in a cameo with the quiet poise of a Viennese salon. Less sunlight, more stillness; the kind of elegance that belongs to a beautiful room.
