Vintage Floral Bar Brooch
An antique bar brooch — a flower of seed pearls blooming along a single line.
At the centre sits one bloom, each petal a tiny seed pearl, with a small red stone at its heart. Two more red stones mark the ends of the bar, and leaf motifs stretch out on either side of the flower, each leaf set with seed pearls of its own. The detail rewards a closer look — the kind of work that makes you reach for a loupe.
Seed pearls are natural pearls smaller than a grain of rice, and setting them one by one is patient handwork that no machine has ever replaced. The construction, too, carries the marks of its era: a two-tone build with a silver-tone face and a gold-tone back, and a trombone clasp — the tube-style fastening used in continental Europe from the late nineteenth into the early twentieth century. The red stones sit in open-backed settings, letting their own colour do the work.
Someone once pinned this small flower to their collar and went about their days. That careful time now passes to its next wearer. Set level at the neckline it reads neat and precise; at a slight angle, a little lighter. Its greatest luxury is the detail only those who come close will ever notice.
Material: The metal has not been assayed, so we do not state it as fact. The face shows a silver tone and the back a gold tone. Seed pearls and red stones (variety unverified).
Era: Late nineteenth to early twentieth century, judging by the construction.
