Damascene Heart Motif Bracelet "Blanca"

Damascene — known as damasquinado in Spain — originated in Damascus, Syria, and was introduced to Spain during the Moorish period in the 8th century. The city of Toledo became its most celebrated centre, where the technique has been preserved for centuries.

The process is entirely handcrafted. Fine grooves are engraved into oxidised steel, and delicate threads of 24 carat gold are carefully inlaid and hammered into place. The deep black surface is created through controlled oxidation, allowing the gold motifs to emerge with remarkable contrast and depth.

This vintage bracelet from the 1970s features a heart motif rendered in gold against the darkened steel base. Subtle variations in the engraved lines reveal the human hand behind the work, creating gentle shifts in character as light moves across the surface.
