In the 19th century, William Morris noticed that strawberries were disappearing from the garden of his home, Kelmscott Manor. The culprits were small birds. The quiet charm of this scene stayed with him, and in 1883, it gave rise to the design “Strawberry Thief.”

Woven in a rich tapestry fabric, birds carrying strawberries appear rhythmically across a deep blue ground. It remains one of Morris’s most beloved patterns. Here, the motif is reimagined as a folding bag—designed to be part of everyday life.
