Vintage Seiko Alba Pino Heart Motif Bracelet Watch, 1991

A small watch and a jewellery bracelet in one — this is the “Pino” from Seiko’s Alba line. Made in 1991, at a time when Japanese watchmaking was at its most meticulous, it strings together a chain of two-tone hearts, each accented with a small rhinestone. It was designed less as a timepiece than as an ornament to be worn.

The case is stainless steel, and the bracelet alternates gold and silver tones. The pale gold dial carries only dot markers and slender hands — a quiet elegance held within a very small circle. The movement is Japanese-made quartz.

At about 16mm across, the case is delightfully small. On the wrist, the little dial seems to rest gently at the centre of the heart-linked bracelet. The two metals return the light in turn, giving it a richer play of expression than a single-tone piece.

It layers beautifully with fine rings or chain bracelets. Wear it with a polished outfit, or simply as a touch of charm at the cuff. This is the delicate, carefully made side of 1990s Japanese watchmaking, ready to be enjoyed in everyday life.
