Seiko began in Tokyo in 1881 as a watch shop. In 1969 it released the world’s first quartz wristwatch, opening the age of precision. This piece belongs to that lineage — a quartz dress watch, Japanese craft brought down to a size that sits easily on the wrist.

The dial is a pale, creamy tone. Gold dot indices and slim hands catch the light gently as the angle shifts. An octagonal bezel frames the face, and the bracelet runs in a series of ribbon-like links. In the hand, it carries more weight than you’d expect.

The face is small, around 1.8cm each way, easy on a slimmer wrist. It isn’t only for occasions. Worn against a plain sleeve, it does the work of a bracelet that happens to tell the time.

This watch has kept time for someone before. Now it can keep yours — quietly, a little apart from whatever is in fashion.

The chain at the clasp end of the bracelet is not included.
