Seiko Bangle Watch — 1989

A piece that sits exactly between a watch and a bracelet. A gold bangle crossed by lines of silver, and where the two metals meet, a small coloured stone is set on either side. At the centre, an oval white dial — placed less like a watch case than like the clasp of a piece of jewellery.

The dial carries slim baton markers, fine gold hands, the Seiko name and a single gold dot at twelve. A dial made for dressing the wrist more than for reading the time.

The case measures about 13.2mm × 15.9mm. Small by today’s habits, but true to the jewellery watches of its era — inside a cuff, what remains is simply colour and a point of light.

The gold-and-silver combination asks nothing of the rest of your jewellery. It sits beside gold rings and silver chains alike, on whichever kind of day it is.

It presents cleanly; under a loupe there are stamp marks on the bezel and scratches on the crystal, neither obvious to the naked eye and natural for a watch of this age.

A small piece of jewellery that finishes the wrist on its own.
