A woman who stepped out from her father’s shadow to let her own flowers bloom.
What lives within this scarf is the story of May Morris. Born as the daughter of William Morris, a central figure of the British Arts and Crafts movement, she created this “Honeysuckle” design at just 21 years of age, in 1883.
For many years, the design was attributed to her father. Later research revealed it to be May’s own work. In an era when it was often necessary to stand beneath a father’s name, she quietly—and with certainty—left her own mark. That sincerity and talent live on within the intertwining vines and leaves of honeysuckle.
Compared to her father’s designs, this piece feels lighter and more open, reflecting May’s distinct sensibility. Printed delicately on 100% silk, the pattern moves softly with every wear, adding quiet depth to an outfit. The fine fringed edges create gentle motion, while the generous 180 cm length offers an elegant presence. Whether wrapped around the neck or draped over the shoulders, it settles naturally into everyday life.
The language of honeysuckle
In Victorian England, honeysuckle symbolized devoted love and happiness. It was often included in bouquets exchanged between lovers, its climbing vines—growing closely entwined—seen as a reflection of enduring affection and shared joy.
