This is the Cartier closest to where the wristwatch began. In 1904, Louis Cartier made a watch for his friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont — one of the earliest wristwatches ever created for a man. The square case with softened corners and the exposed screws on the bezel: the Santos-Dumont carries that original design almost unchanged.

The case is stainless steel. The satin-brushed silver dial has a subtle sunray sheen, with Roman numerals, blued-steel sword hands, and a blue cabochon set into the beaded crown. The slim case slips neatly under a shirt cuff — a dress watch in the quietest sense.

At 28mm wide, the small model sits comfortably even on slender wrists. Steel with a navy leather strap moves easily between a jacket and a plain shirt. A design more than a century old that looks entirely at home in the present — that is what this model does best.

Produced around 2020, this piece comes with its guarantee card (dated 22 May 2020) and box (the inner box carries an engraving). The watch shows scratches, small dents, and marks from use throughout, which is reflected in the price.
