Damascene, or damasquinado in Spanish, is a decorative metalworking tradition said to have originated in Damascus and later developed into an important craft in Toledo. The technique involves engraving fine grooves into a metal surface and applying precious-metal detailing, traditionally creating elaborate floral, bird and geometric motifs.

On this piece, the black-and-gold decoration continues across the bracelet, giving the watch the presence of jewellery rather than a conventional timepiece. The intricacy of the gold detailing is balanced by the dark background, allowing the pattern to remain decorative without feeling overly ornate.

Despite its substantial appearance, the watch feels relatively light and can be worn much like a bracelet. It works particularly well as a single decorative element or alongside simple gold jewellery.
