Vintage Rhinestone Floral Earrings

Clusters of soft pink blossoms with leaf-green accents, falling in a gentle drop — flowers rendered entirely in faceted stones.

The construction rewards a close look. The petals are small round stones in a warm peach-pink; the leaves are navette-cut stones — the elongated marquise shape that jewellers have used for foliage since the eighteenth century, precisely because its pointed oval reads as a leaf. Every stone, petal and leaf alike, is held in its own prong setting: tiny metal claws bent by hand over each stone, one by one. Nothing here is glued or stamped out — this is the slow way of making costume jewellery, from the era when it was made to last.

Because the flowers hang as a drop, they move. Each step sends a small shiver through the cluster, and the facets answer with flickers of pink and green — the effect of a blossom branch stirred by wind, worn at the ear.

Pink and green is one of nature's own pairings, and it flatters warm and cool complexions alike. With a chignon or a low ponytail, the drop traces the line of the neck; against cream, grey, or navy, the colours come forward like flowers against stone. Decades ago, someone bent each of these tiny claws over each of these tiny stones. That patience is what still catches the light.
