A round dial with nothing extra on it. Roman numerals, two slim hands, and that’s all. This is a watch that chose not to speak up — it sits quietly on the wrist and almost disappears. Then it catches the light at your cuff, and the whole outfit reads a little sharper.

The case is gold-filled stainless steel, with a quartz movement inside — accurate, easy, nothing to fuss over. White dial, black Roman numerals, gold hands and indexes. Three colours, no more. That restraint is why the design has never aged.

Gucci’s watches were never a side project. They were built on the same instinct as the rest of the house — finish a thing by taking away, not adding. The 2200M is one of the clearest expressions of that. At 32mm it’s a boys’ size, which means it sits well on a man’s wrist and just as naturally on a woman’s.

The strap is genuine Gucci, unused. Croc-embossed black leather that gives the gold case its depth. A white shirt, a knit sleeve, a room where you want to look considered. This is the kind of watch you reach for when you’d rather not think about it — and it works stacked with bracelets, too.

You fasten it last, on your way out the door. Nothing dramatic happens. But the day sits a little straighter for it, and after a while you notice it’s the one you keep choosing.
