The Portfolio, introduced by Tiffany & Co. in the 1990s. Everything unnecessary has been stripped away, leaving only the essentials of a watch, carefully considered. What you notice first, wearing it, is how quiet it is.

Stainless steel case with a gold bezel. Silver and gold meet on the same plane, and the balance shifts with the light. White dial, black Roman numerals, Swiss quartz movement, signed PORTFOLIO TIFFANY & CO. at the centre.

The case measures roughly 2.4cm. Small by current standards — but this is the refined scale ladies’ watches were built to at the time. It doesn’t announce itself on the wrist. A flash of gold when the cuff moves, and nothing more. That restraint is what makes it wearable for years rather than seasons.

The black leather strap carries a pressed lizard grain. Because the case is two-tone, it sits easily with far more than an all-gold watch would — a white shirt, the cuff of a knit, whatever the morning happens to be.

No date, no day. Just the time. You fasten it last, before you leave — and that small motion settles the start of the day. This isn’t a watch chosen for how loud it is. It’s chosen for being there, every morning.
